Seattle Polo and Equestrian Club, the premier polo club in the Pacific Northwest, is pleased to announce its biggest event of the summer, the USPA Seattle Cup Tournament and Polo Party, on August 8th – 9th, 2015 to benefit Seattle Children’s Hospital. Working with the Dream Builder’s Guild benefitting Seattle Children’s Hospital, a portion of Polo Party proceeds will provide funds for uncompensated care and cancer research. For more than 100 years, Seattle Children’s has been dedicated to providing top-quality medical care to children in the Pacific Northwest regardless of a family’s ability to pay. Last year alone over $120 million in uncompensated care was provided to families in need, and this year’s Polo Party will contribute to the continued success.
Throughout the event weekend, spectators may watch the games and enjoy the social aspect of polo. Saturday will host two qualifying games with the consolation and finals games played on Sunday. Tickets are available at www.seattlepoloparty.com including general admission, tailgating parking, VIP, VIP Elite and private VIP cabanas. Attendees in general admission are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to sit in the grass and view the games field-side. Food will be available for purchase for general admission with both VIP tents providing a catered brunch on Sunday.
On Saturday, the games are at 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm, and admission allows viewing of both games. On Sunday, the consolation game will be played at noon and the tournament finals at 2:00 pm, with a polo party atmosphere and a “big hats” theme for women. SPEC will offer entertainment in-between the games, a trophy and award presentation, and the traditional divot stomp at halftime. Seating in one of the two VIP tents is available for those who prefer a full-service experience.
Polo, one of the oldest team sports in history, originated in Persia more than 2,000 years ago, and has spread around the world since then. The United States Polo Association (USPA) was created in 1890 and now boasts more than 250 active polo clubs throughout the country. Polo in the United States is traditionally played in the summer months with the winter polo season played in dry areas of the southern states.
Seattle Polo and Equestrian Club (SPEC), which features 68 acres of equestrian facilities including a regulation- size polo field, practice polo field, two riding arenas, stables for 60 horses, pasture for an additional 60 horses, individual polo lessons and polo clinics, kicked off the polo season last summer with a practice game open to the public, drawing more than 300 local attendees.
