Carolina Chocolate Drops
In early 2012, Grammy award-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops released their studio album Leaving Eden (Nonesuch Records) produced by Buddy Miller. The traditional African-American string band‘s album was recorded in Nashville and featured founding members Rhiannon Giddens and Dom Flemons, along with multi-instrumentalist Hubby Jenkins and cellist Leyla McCalla, already a familiar presence at the group’s live shows. With Flemons and McCalla now concentrating on solo work, the group’s 2014 lineup will feature two more virtuosic players alongside Giddens and Jenkins, cellist Malcolm Parson and multi-instrumentalist Rowan Corbett, illustrating the expansive, continually exploratory nature of the Chocolate Drops’ music.

The Del McCoury Band
For more than fifty years, Del McCoury’s music has defined authenticity for hard core bluegrass fans as well as a growing number of fans among those only vaguely familiar with the genre. McCoury is something special, a living link to the days when bluegrass was made only in hillbilly honkytonks, schoolhouse shows and on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry, yet also a commandingly vital presence today, from prime time and late night talk show TV to music festivals where audiences number in the hundreds of thousands.

I would like to attend because it would be an awesome way to have a date night with my husband. We haven’t been out on a date (just us …no kids) in years!

I had the fortune of seeing the Carolina Chocolate Drops for the first time at Jazz Fest in New Orleans in 2012. My best friend insisted we hear them and she was right. They were phenomenal and I would love the opportunity to see them again!

I would love to go to this with my sweetie because:
    a) we love discovering new artists- especially through live music
    b) chocolate drop is my nickname.

    It’s meant to be.

My parents are celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary this summer and I would love to give them tickets as the first of their celebration events. They are big bluegrass fans but have never been able to see Carolina and the Chocolate Drops live. I know they would love it!

  16. Jennifer July 2, 2014 at 5:47 pm #

Not only do I love the zoo and good tunes, but sometimes my husband and I just miss our southern roots. Bring on the bluegrass!

  17. Gabi July 2, 2014 at 8:45 pm #

My partner and I are completely enamored with the Carolina Chocolate Drops! For our 2nd Anniversary I got him some bones (which he learned to play in a weekend!) because he loved their sound on the record so much! It’d be ah-mazing to take a (well deserved!!) study break (I’m a grad student)- and go see these guys perform live!

Bluegrass music is a lifestyle in itself. It’s magical!

  19. Amy July 2, 2014 at 10:23 pm #

My Dad would play bluegrass music in the barn while we milked the cows in WI, it warmed our hearts and certainly took our minds off all the work that still had to be done.

  20. Arielle July 3, 2014 at 2:24 pm #

The 6th is my birthday! It would be fun to hear some great music in a great location to celebrate! Bluegrass is my favorite :)

I would love to win because I lived in Asheville, NC for many years and haven’t seen the Carolina Chocolate Drops in years! It makes me homesick for Western North Carolina just knowing about this concert!

My daughter was born in the blue ridge mountains and is very proud of it. Bluegrass always makes her get up & dance, we would love to go to this show!

Shut the door! I just love me some cornbread and butterbeans! I will also pull out a mean flatfoot routine to some Carolina Chocolate Drops. Plus, they were discovered at my alma mater- Appalachian State University. Major Fans right here!
