Soundshack Records makes a splash as it jumps into the Seattle Hip Hop scene by presenting the 2nd Annual Hip Hop on the Water Festival to support new Seattle hip hop talent. Hip Hop on the Water will take place this year on Friday, August 23rd from 7:00 to 10:00 aboard the Islander Boat on Lake Union.
An evening of Seattle’s hottest new hip hop artists, breakdancers, fashion show and DJs is planned during the 3 hour cruise with the Seattle city skyline as its backdrop.
Hip Hop on the Water was started by Tammy Leland, Co-founder of Crooked Trails and local Hip Hop artist, Talkative in 2012 as a unique concept of creating a fun and memorable event that supports the music of independent Hip Hop performers. The concept was simple, throwing a great music party that would attract the crowd and then giving the stage to independent Hip Hop artists to showcase their work. After a packed boat on the first year, Hip Hop on the Water is doubling its capacity in 2013 and hopes to continue this growth over the next few years to eventually take Hip Hop on the Water to the shores of Lake Union and be able to boast the largest, local Hip Hop Festival on the West Coast.
Realizing they wanted to go bigger, Crooked Trails and Talkative approached Soundshack Records this year to help promote the idea to their local community which includes an enormous group of Africans living in the Seattle area.
Bobby Pierre of Soundshack says, “our community will eat this up. They are ready to support their fellow brothers and sisters but also are always looking for fun Seattle events. This is a unique one and we are ready to make waves.”
