This Friday, Highway 99 Blues Club will be hosting a celebration of Sweethearts in the Blues, featuring powerhouse bassist, Lisa Mann, dynamic vocalist, Vicki Stevens, veteran guitarist, Sonny Hess, and the incomparable Diane Blue on harmonica. Don’t let their sweet faces fool you!! These musicians bring the heat and the heart to every performance, guaranteeing you a rockin’ good time!
Portland original, Lisa Mann, along with her “Really Good Band” have been mainstays in the Northwest music scene for several years, storming stages such as the Waterfront Blues Festival, Bronze Blues & Brews, Untapped Blues Festival, Sunbanks and more. Lisa is a proud inductee into the Cascade Blues Association’s Hall of Fame after winning the Muddy Waters Award for Bass Player of the Year three times in a row. She’s also taken home the Female Vocalist of the Year award, and her “Really Good Band” won Contemporary Blues Act of the Year in 2012.
Originally from Las Vegas, Vicki Stevens now makes Albany, Oregon her home. After making it to the final cut of “Nashville Star” (Country music’s version of “American Idol”), she’s devoted her attention to her own band, The Vicki Stevens Band, and has been burning up the Pacific Northwest with her blistering vocals and stage presence. When she’s not singing the National Anthem for the Portland Trailblazers, The Prefontaine Classic Track meet, or the University of Oregon’s Ducks games, she’s in the studio putting out a second album with VSB.
Sonny Hess picked up the guitar at age 8 and has been playing in festivals around Portland and the Pacific Northwest ever since her teenage years. Sonny started performing with the late, great Paulette Davis, and went on to win Portland’s Music Association’s Crystal award for Outstanding R&B act of the year. After Paulette passed, Sonny continued their legacy as the Power Band, which is notorious for upbeat, danceable R&B and a truly energetic performance. Sonny is the first woman to be nominated in a male-dominated field for Best Lead Guitar by the Cascade Blues Association, and also holds a nomination for their “Lifetime Achievement Award”.
Hailing from Boston and making an interntional name for herself, Diane Blue is the whole package. Voted Outstanding Female Singer in The Blues Audience 2011 Readers’ Poll, Ms. Blue is a soulful and sassy performer with a strong, confident attack and energetic delivery, serving up her own spin on soul, blues and R&B. Ms. Blue won the 2010 Massachusettes Blues Challenge, competed at the 2011 Int’l Blues Challenge in Memphis and has been nominated for “Best Female Singer”, “Best Blues/R&B Act” and “Best Female Vocalist” in competitions around the country. Her legendary harmonica performance will leave you begging for more.
Together, they are the Sweethearts of Blues and will be storming the stage this Friday at Highway 99 Blues Club at 8:00pm. So bring your sweetie down and plan on dancing the night away to the Best Blues in the Northwest!

I love the Blues! This would be awesome!
Sounds like a great night, if you have any tickets left. I love good music.
My wife who does most of the work to keep our daughter and myself happy loves live music and the blues in particular. Our daughter will be at a slumber party so we have a rare night to ourselves.
Love blues, love women. Need more music in my life! =)
