The Northwest Flower & Garden Show returns to the Washington State Convention Center from February 20 to 24, and once again the Arboretum Foundation will kick off the show with its annual Opening Night Party, a benefit for the Washington Park Arboretum. On Tuesday, February 19, guests can enjoy a fabulous evening of food, wine, live music, and silent auctions—and the opportunity to view the beautiful display gardens at the Garden Show the day before it opens to the public.
Silver Anniversary Meets Silver Screen: This year marks the 25th anniversary of both the Garden Show and Opening Night. To celebrate the occasion, the Garden Show will have a special “silver” theme: “The Silver Screen Takes Root…Gardens Go Hollywood.” Visitors to the show will see some of their favorite movies come to life as luscious display gardens. The display will include Washington Park Arboretum’s crowd-pleasing “A Hobbit’s New Zealand Garden,” which pays homage to Peter Jackson’s new movie of The Hobbit and the 2.5-acre New Zealand Forest being planted at the south end of the Arboretum in late spring 2013.
Opening Night Goes Hollywood: In keeping theme of the Show, this year’s party will also capture some of the glamour and magic of Tinseltown. Don’t miss your chance to walk the red carpet, pose for paparazzi, and gossip with your favorite Northwest horticultural celebrities. Gardening superstar Ciscoe Morris will emcee this year’s Fund-A-Need event, which will raise money to support our Arborist and Tree Care Program. He will also introduce the world premiere of an exciting short film that we’re producing just for the party about the important work our arborists do in the treetops at the Arboretum.
General Admission: General admission tickets to the party for Arboretum Foundation Members cost $75, while general admission for Non-Members is $100. Dinner is not included as part of the general admission benefits. Members and Non-Members will enjoy a light nosh as well as some tasty desserts and wines!
Patron and Benefactor Specials: Along with exclusive viewing of the display gardens, complimentary parking and coat check, and a delicious buffet dinner, our Patron and Benefactor ticket holders will get to enjoy a special tour of the Show gardens with designer and author Billy Goodnick. Billy, who blogs for Fine Gardening magazine, will discuss his Top 10 design tips for sustainability and outdoor living in the 2013 show gardens. Billy’s design eye, combined with his keen wit, promises to make this an entertaining way to discover new trends. Patron tickets cost $250; Benefactor tickets are $500.
Purchasing tickets: For reservations, please call 206-325-4510 or visit www.arboretumfoundation.org.

I need to redo my yard, it looks so sad. This show will give my so many ideas.
Ooooh, I would LOVE to win tickets to opening night. Such a great chance to see the beautiful display gardens without the huge crowds.
To plant or not to plant is the question before us!
I love the flower show. It makes me remember that spring is surely on the way–indeed, it brings us a lovely preview of spring/summer and even fall sometimes.
I’m most excited for the New Zealand garden.
Ruby Slippers, red carpet, the Technicolor of Oz, how much fun can the Flower and Garden show meets Hollywood be? I bet lots. My witch hazel is a riot in the garden but I need lots of great ideas and a good time to boot. So Hi Ho Silver and Away to the garden show …. Pick me, ouch… ME, not the flowers!
Flowers , Food and Wine. What an awesome combo.
Love to get unique ideas for our garden next year. Sounds like a fun time.
Food, Wine, Music and a sneak peek! Would love to take my gardening friends to this event!
Aah! I love gardens, flowers, wine, and food (OH MY!)… it’ll be fantastic to get all dressed up for this fabulous event. I hope I win!
I would like to attend because we probably won’t go unless we win it. My husband turns our yard into a great garden every year and I would like to take him.
so love to win this, can’t afford to go on my own
My friend just bought her first house and would love to take her.
Flowers please! Garden Yez!
Yes please!!! We have our hands full with our toddler at home, and a night out with my hubby would be so amazing! Plus we’re a SUPER fan of Criscoe, how cool that he will be there!
My mother was the president of the Arboretum Foundation the first year of the Flower and Garden show and helped to get it off the ground. She is too old to go now and I would like to win tickets so that I could take pictures and put together a little slide show for her. :)
I would love to walk the red carpet and have my feet lead me to a feast for my eyes, ears and palette! Flowers, sculpters, movies, music & wine with an auction to boot?! What a beautiful experience to immerse yourself in whilst having the opportunity to help a good cause! I would definitely take the time to stop & smell the flowers!
I’m a horticulture student at South Seattle Community College. I love going to this show, not only to take in the amazing sights, sounds and smells, but to get inspiration for my own developing techniques, and to meet potential employers! Having a student’s budget might make getting tickets difficult, and winning tickets might mean having a little extra pocket money to spend at the show!
I’ve love to attend this event! I’ve heard this show is inspiring, creative and beautiful. Would love to experience it!
I have finally bought a 1950′s house in Seattle, and want to design a garden oasis in my backyard… right now it’s alllll concrete!
I’ve been running garden groups for adults with mental illnesses for a few years now….to attend the garden show would give me so much inspiration and new ideas!
i used to work for the flower and garden show, but never got to attend the opening night party. it is a heckuva soiree, from what i’ve heard/read!
Our yard looks like the before in a before/after photo. We would love to get some ideas from the experts and see the garden displays!
I’ve never been and would really like to go because I love gardens and flowers. This sounds like a very fun evening.
I’ve never been to something like this and it sounds awesome!
My yard wants me to go to this!
It’s very strange that I’ve never been to a flower & garden show because I’ve been involved in the field for more than 10 years: landscape architecture undergrad, landscape planner, certified arborist, current forestry grad student and worker bee . . . I guess I’ve been too damn busy and focused. I need this!
What a wonderful opening night planned! I would love to get tickets to attend! I am ready for some new ideas for my backyard for this spring/summer!
This sounds beautiful! Choose me!
Looks like fun
Why would it be lovely to win? Can’t get enough of that “Ooh, La, La”, dahling!
My cousin raves about this event and I would love to take him.
I would love to attend. I need to get my yard in shape and have a great time viewing so many beautiful designs. And have fun nibbling on great food and wine. Please choose me! Thanks
Some new plants and colors to change the yards look for Spring
New shades and colors for spring planting would hight light the yard
My husband and I had one of our first dates at the show many years ago. Winning tickets would be just the kick in the pants we need to “refresh” our garden. Fingers crossed!
I love this show! The Opening Party would be an amazing experience!
Can’t wait to see what’s new for the garden this year! And a party wouldn’t be bad either!!
I would love to photograph the event.. for personal reasons :) I love this show!
