STEAMCON IV: VICTORIAN MONSTERS INVADE SEATTLE!
Call it Victorian science fiction, altered history or yesterday’s tomorrows, Steampunk, a multi-cultural arts movement that incorporates literature, fashion, craft and music, is steadily gaining popularity in the cultural zeitgeist.
Each year Steamcon draws several thousand fans to its Steampunk festival, one of the longest running in the world. This year’s theme is “Victorian Monsters,” a weekend long Halloween party featuring all the classic monsters of the Victorian era. Frankenstein’s Monster, Dracula, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Spring Heeled Jack, the Invisible Man, Jack the Ripper and many more were born in the foggy streets of Victorian London. With participants dressing as monsters and monster-hunters, this year’s event is the perfect setting for Steampunk intrigue, ghoulish frights and ghastly delights.
Kim Newman, the man who penned the thrilling alternate history tale Anno Dracula, will be the Author Guest of Honor. Joe Benitez, illustrator and creator of the gorgeous comic book Lady Mechanika is this year’s Artist Guest of Honor. The Monster Hunters of Honor will be the ever popular and outrageous League of S.T.E.A.M.
Headlining the Saturday Night Concert will be Musical Guests of Honor the cello ensemble Rasputina. The concert will also feature a performance by the fabulous Nathaniel Johnstone band and the theatrical Eric Stern of Vagabond Opera.
Taking place at the lovely Hyatt Regency hotel in Bellevue on October 26th -28th, Steamcon IV will feature three days of lively panel discussions, demonstrations, and talks about the literary genre/music genre/fashion/do-it-yourselfers dream that is Steampunk. The Convention will host an art exhibition, a merchant’s room, games rooms, a high tea, dances, a concert and much, much more. Speakers, fans and Steampunk aficionados from around the world will attend.

This is an awesome opportunity. I would LOVE to go
I want to see Rasputina!
SteamCon is, hands down, the most fun to be had.
so i could take my three daughters, all of whom have birthdays in late october, early november, including one whose birthday is october 26. and i made her an awesome steampunk dress for New Year’s Eve and it would be great to have another opportunity to wear it.
I intend to take as many people as I can get my hands on! I have three kids coming on Friday to work on their Steamcon out fits! I would love free tickets so more could go!
If I won the tickets, I would bring along my Husband Jim and my daughter, they have never been to Steamcon before. My 3 teen grandkids and myself had such a Grand Time last year, that we already have tickets for this year. :~) Then, they would get to experience all of the fun to be had at Steamcon IV with us !!!
Thank you for the opportunity to win.
We’ve had a rough couple of months while I’ve recovered from breaking my ankle. I’d love to use these as an opportunity to thank my son for being my care giver and changing his mommy’s bandages every day for a month. By the 22nd I will be full weight bearing and ready to dress up and have fun!
Ohhhhh this looks like so much fun – I would love to go – have never been and with a little one on the way, winning some tickets (we could actually afford to go then ha!) would be awesome!!
I’ve only ever been to one Steamcon, and I had a blast! I’d love to go again!! :)
I’ve been to SpoCon, but never Steamcon. Since I’m coming from Spokane for an appt in Seattle on Oct 26th, I was planning to hang out in the hotel lobby that evening to see as many Steamcon people & costumes as possible. Having tickets & actually getting in – way more fun & I could bring a friend!
I have really enjoyed Steampunk for awhile and always attempt to get myself to any sort of event or convention, but money’s been tight for awhile now and I just can’t afford the prices. This especially frustrates me, as I would love to contribute to the community so these events can continue to happen.
This event would also help me get a better idea of the costumes I need to get together for my wedding, as I’ve been going back and forth on a Steampunk theme, again, due to finances. Please help me overcome my circumstances and further my creative outlets!
I would LOVE to win these tickets
I would like to get my Stanley Steam…er…punk on with my Bro @ SteamCon.
The title suggests a musty bathroom in prison…but I’m okay with that.
Would really like to see Rasputina in person! My boyfriend and I were regular attendees of the Handcar Regatta in Santa Rosa, CA, before moving up to Washington. Those were such great events and an amazing introduction to Steampunk/Victorian culture! I’d really love to be able to go to this event, and see just how Washington State rocks their Steampunk selves!
i would love to go because steampunk is cool, but moreso because my son is the coolest kid ever and an anazing artist and it would be so great for him to go….i might even just let him go and bring a friend…he’s the best and deserves it…it will be inspiring for him and his art…
ps, we can’t afford tickets…but if we win….i’ll make sure our costumes ROCK
Why would I like to attend? Because I have a desperate need (yes, “need”) to be kidnapped by dashing, intrepid airship pirates, tied to the mast and sail away from the rigors of daily life, if only for a weekend. This year has felt like a bad country song: my husband of 14 years left me and our 5 kids and went to China (yes, “China”), my dog ran away, I had to shut down a failing startup company to save the original one that funded it and keep my 20-something staff employed, my house is in foreclosure, my car was rear-ended and totalled and later caught on fire (yes, *fire*), and we’re currently “homeless” and living with friends until I can piece back together my life. If this sounds stranger than fiction, I can provide witnesses! I have my corset, my bustled brown shirt, my boots. I am ready for some therapeutic whimsy. And this would be my FIRST Steamcon. I’ve been in the pressure-cooker, it’s time for some Steam! This overworked single mom would love to trade in her sneakers for spats and partake of teatime and kick up her heels and play “dress-up” and “make-believe”….if only for a weekend….
*skirt not shirt. Darn you, autocorrect! I shall have my revenge upon thee!
OMG this sounds incredible!! Have always wanted to experience SteamCon and combining it with the excitement of Halloween is too good to be true :)
Send Carrie….. that’s just crazy!
I.WOULD.LOVE.TO.WIN.THIS! My husband and I’s first date was a Rasputina concert – I love him so much and I love Rasputina! This would be an amazing event for us to be able to attend, seeing Rasputina and celebrating Halloween and SteamCon.
I would love to take my boyfriend there for his birthday. we dont get to do much for our birthday because we do work, but for this we would make it like our first date.
Time off has been submitted and approved for months. We took our car in for oil and filter only to walk out with a $700 bill.
So now we have excellent transportation and time off but no tickets.
Winning this would be so cool! I love meeting all the People at SteamCon, they are so accepting and each one comes from a different walk of life! Its a great learning experience! I love SteamCon, I plan to attend as much as I can!
The Girls would love this. They love to dress up and love Halloween.
May I go?…PLEASE!
I think it would be fun to see all the costumes and dress up! Can I go?
I’d love to win these tickets!! Even have some cosplay I’m stoked to show off!!!!
we’ve never been to steamcon, and would just love to go. plus my birthday’s that weekend (27th).
Never been and would love a new adventure
I have a blood red corseted vinyl ball gown hanging in my closet that is BEGGING to be worn this Halloween. And right now I am a Cinderella with nowhere to dance with her fella. Since I lost my job to downsizing a couple weeks ago, I am without the means to make it happen on my own, and I’ve always wanted to go to Steamcon. We would make such a svelte and dashing pair twirling the night away to Alexander James Adams. It really would be a Halloween fairytale come true. <3
I would love to attend this event! I’ve begun creating my own series of top hats in steampunk themes and think it’d be great to see what other people are coming up with. I’d also like to point out that the editor of this page misspelled “pair” as “piar”….do we get extra points for catching errors?
omfg i have GOT to win these tickets! this looks like the best event by far!
My 16 year old son and I are flying from Australia to Seattle this week so that we can experience a real Halloween as it is not really celebrated in Australia…problem is there’s not many parties that a 16 year old can attend. Steampunk ties in well with Halloween and I think this would be the experience we are wanting. Can’t wait!
Thanks so much for these awesome tickets seattlepipeline.com Can’t wait to go shopping for some steam punk costumes this week when we arrive in Seattle and we are really excited about finally experiencing a real Halloween! Thanks again…can’t believe we won \m/
I would love to attend because I love steampunk and want to meet kindred spirits!
Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed to come please
Congratulations Tarnya! You have been chosen as the winner for Steamcon IV! Have a great time!
