NANDA presents “The Jacket” – A Kung Faux Ninja Circus Arts Extravaganza

“The Jacket” combines comedy, juggling, acrobatics, martial arts, video projection, original music, dance, and pop-culture satire for an incredible, one-of-a-kind, live performance.

About NANDA:

THE FOUR MAN ACROBATICALIST
NINJA THEATRE TROUPE…

NANDA -noun (pronounced, nah-n-dah): A colloquial Japanese expletive used in reaction to something strange or unusual. Literal translation; “What??!”

Characterized by a calculated chaos of comedy, high-energy kung-faux fighting, and irreverent pop-culture parodies, NANDA has been performing original action-packed theater-based shows since 2004. Also incorporating dance, juggling, and acrobatics, NANDA performances are a mishmash of classic vaudeville, circus and modern live entertainment innovation.

The four members of NANDA grew up together in Port Townsend, WA, where they developed a vision of limitless creative expression from early childhood. Nurtured by the supportive environment cultivated in their hometown, this vision was able to grow and has become an ideal for an entirely new and unique display of performance art. Coining the term “acrobaticalism” to describe this process, and using its tenets as a window to the world, NANDA invents material that draws its inspiration from a wide variety of sources, harping on everything from cinema and pop-culture icons to rock music and even cartoons.

This explode-out-of-the-box mentality has inspired extensive explorations into a variety of other avenues, including live video projection, animation and sound. Nearly every second of the action being performed onstage is accompanied by a tightly integrated cinematic sound track. The effect produced is that of a visceral audio/visual blast, and this rich sensory experience, along with the impressive degree of physicality used to convey the action, make NANDA performances accessible and highly entertaining to audiences of virtually any age or background, and of any language or nationality.

My wife, “Mrs. Judo-Chop” and I, “Mr. Shred-Asuarus!”, love Ninja Arts. Usually every other week we dress in our exclusive ninja spandex suits and head over to the local gymnastics trampoline studio to practice our skills. We believe that attending “The Jacket” will be a good skill builder for us and also be great networking event to meet fellow ninjas. Although Japanese folklore might tell you that we originate from a half man/half crow demon, we believe true world “shinobis” evolved from Tang Dynasty refugees fleeing to Japan. We travelled the world (including the ninja capitals of Kyoto, Japan and Quingdao, China) to spread the good word that the ninja arts are a beautiful and skillful craft regardless of what others say about our past. In the midst of an emerging underground ninja movement, it is such a great opportuniy that an event of this caliber has surfaced in Seattle and thus my wife and I hope to join our fellow Seatleites at The Jacket!

This sounds like all sorts of awesomeness- my friend and I were just talking about how we’d like to get out and try new things besides the standard movie night or bar hopping. We didn’t think anything this unique was happening in our ‘hood, though!

My husband took many different martial arts classes when he was younger and always makes me watch old fighting movies — it would be a nice repreave to watch this instead! It brings my husband’s love of maritial arts and my love of shows together to be a blisful date night!

This is why I love Seattle- so many different and interesting things to do and see. I’m a huge fan of 80s-90s Hong Kong martial arts films; everything from the Shaw Brothers to stunt driven Jackie Chan adventures. I think it would be great to get to see some of these human special effects in person.
