Harold Ramis directed this National Lampoon’s Animal House knock-off dealing with a collection of outrageous incidents unfolding at a posh country club, with the lower order of the rambunctious caddies clashing with the hoi-polloi that hires them. The wafer-thin plot concerns Danny Noonan (Michael O’Keefe) a young caddy standing at a crossroads in his life. His parents want to see him go to college, so he attempts to get into the good graces of Judge Smails (Ted Knight), the owner of the country club in order to win a caddy scholarship. Unfortunately, Danny can’t seem to fit into the upper-class environment to get the scholarship. Around Danny orbit an array of broad comic performances — prominent among them are Rodney Dangerfield as Al Czervik (a gross, nouveau-riche lout who constantly goes head-to-head with Smails), Bill Murray as Carl Spackler (a groundskeeper obsessed with killing gophers), and Chevy Chase as Ty Webb (an obtuse resident golf pro).
