Explore Your Inner Artist with Free Demos and Workshops Offered by the Whidbey Art Trail
Summer is the perfect time to explore a new art form. Artisans from the Whidbey Art Trail will offer free demos and workshops to the public from July 29 to August 4. There are 21 demos scheduled throughout the week and include mosaics, braiding, felting, kiln loading, painting, dyeing and much more.

Pick up a Whidbey Art Trail brochure on the Mukilteo and Coupeville ferries, and at visitor centers and retail stores throughout the island. Or download a Whidbey Art Trail map from the website.
Many studios are open 7 days a week in summer. Please call ahead if appointment is requested per brochure. Phone numbers and addresses are listed on the map. Look for the bright yellow Whidbey Art Trail signs along island roads.

Creating Rust-Dyed Patterns on Cloth
Use rusty objects you have around the home and garden to create unique impressions on cloth. We’ll also use tannins to shift the dye bath from rusty to blue gray.

Dyeing Naturally: Mood Indigo
Watch the magic of indigo as fibers change colors before your eyes when they come out of the dye pot and hit the air. Mary will be doing lots of overdying with different fibers in this marathon dye session.

Loading of 70 cu. ft. Soda-Vapor Kiln
Loading an atmospheric kiln is like choreographing a dance. Robbie Lobell & Maryon Attwood will be placing pots in the kiln according to both size of the pot & how the soda vapor will enhance the surface during the firing. Watch as Mary Ellen O’Connor takes a scarf from plain white silk to a beautiful work of art. She will be demonstrating the “Serti” technique of applying a resist to create a nature themed, hand washable silk scarf in vibrant color.
